Job Description for Mechanical Engineering Intern

This position is part of our Signal & Power Solutions segment.

Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering interns in Aptiv’s Connection Systems (CS) segment will get a mixture of hands on projects, lab experience and computer work. Connection Systems interns are provided valuable assignments and work alongside experienced engineers to gain a real world experience in Engineering. All specific assignment details will be identified and shared with the intern prior to their start date and will be aligned with their field of study. We strive to provide the best internship experience possible and each intern will be treated as a valuable, contributing team member.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibility

• Perform simulations, worst case analysis, FMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplines to ensure compliance to customer requirements

• Support hardware prototype builds, bench level debugging, testing and prototyping

• Complete FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation using standard sample / setup. Review multiple plastic materials.

• Analyze testing data and develop a problem solving analysis with engineering team

• Partner with the engineering team in design / development to provide North American OEM customers a world class design, cost and quality product

• Coordinate design and design change activities for various customers

• Collaborate among interdisciplinary teams (ME, EE, ChemE, & Lab Techs) to solve problems

• Gain experience using a variety of engineering software programs

• Other experience gained in CT scanning, additive manufacturing, materials, polymers, RF, EMC, laser welding, advanced manufacturing, etc.

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

• Rising Junior or Senior status in Mechanical Engineering

• Min 3.2 GPA

• Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics

• Resourcefully innovative and adapts in a rapidly changing environment

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team
